A friend of mine is moving this summer and as her 'farewell' gift I made her a papercut to hang in her craft room. Each thing inside the girl represented something in her life. Beth has a very successful etsy shop, love, september , full of handmade stuff for mom and baby, and just opened another shop with vintage children's books called, Storeybooks. I admire her so much and will really miss her and her family.
Beth is a fabulous seamstress, so I put a sewing machine inside!

I have always had a passion for the photographic work of others, but I didn't consider pursuing it as a career for myself until recently when I purchased my very first camera that wasn't a point and shoot. And I fell in love.
I am a self-taught photographer. Open to learning something new every day, I find inspiration in a variety of places. I use mostly vintage fabrics, sourced from old dresses, curtains, off-cuts and whatever else I can get my hands on. I like to complement these finds with a variety of modern fabrics. I also use fine soft leather and suede sourced from one of the top London leather suppliers (which was established in 1938 and stocks every colour imaginable)!

When did you start crafting? I have always enjoyed painting and photography and did A-Level art at school. However, I had a creative hiatus for several years while I studied to become a Solicitor.

How did you get started? I started sewing around 5 years ago when I found an old sewing machine in a shared house and decided to test it out. It wasn’t long before I was hooked! I grew up around some talented seamstresses, so I may have had a head start.

What inspires you? I love fabric, particularly vintage designs. I own far too much and keep buying more. I understand this is a common problem… I don’t tend to purchase fabric with a view to making a particular item, I just buy what grabs my attention and come up with patterns later.

What is your favorite item in your shop? My oilcloth flock-style print wash bags. The material is both practical and stylish; the pattern and colours are really striking. These bags come in a good number of sizes and lend themselves to being part of a matching set. I’m currently quite excited about an upcoming new range of colours.

What are some of your favorite handmade things? I love handmade jewelry (especially simple fused glass pieces in vibrant colours). Anything made out of leather; notebooks, bags etc. Clothing and knitwear, especially when I know it is a one-off piece. If I had more space at home, I'm sure this list would be longer.

What do you enjoy doing besides crafting?I try to keep fit, I practice Astanga yoga, skip, run – whatever I can think of to keep it interesting. I enjoy cooking…and eating, which works well. I also enjoy music.

Is there anything else you would like to share? I’m currently working on a range of clutch purses with metal kiss-lock frames. I love this style of bag and they are the ideal accessory to a summer outfit. I have a large stash of beautiful and unusual smaller pieces of fabric and I think this will be the best way to make use of them. I plan to ornament these bags with vintage brooches/buttons (if I can bear to part with them…). I’d like to thank Melissa for featuring me on this blog, much appreciated!

This is a custom order I recently did. It was quite a challenge, but it turned out just like the girl wanted. She seems very pleased with it! All the items in the girls apron represent someone in her family or from her own etsy shop. The girl is blowing wishes in the wind.
Lace detail around the apron. There was a lot of things she wanted inside the apron. A bird on cherry blossom branch with a nest, velveteen rabbit, heart with a period next to it, dogwood bloom, two necklaces from her etsy shop, an anvil with LOVE. inside, and 'SS.'
The colors she chose had meaning, as well as the shamrock the girl is holding.

When did you start crafting?When I was a little kid I made art projects. My dad is an artist and gave us old masonite boards to paint on while we wore his shirts like bulky backward dresses. Also, my brother and I built a dam in the creek behind our house. We used rocks and tree branches (not unlike andy goldsworthy). Besides looking fantastic, it must have been effective, because the creek-police called on my mom to make us stop.
what inspires you?Anything that is as cool as nature. Sunsets behind craggy tree silhouettes: how can you beat that? Am into beetles / bugs lately. Their colors and patterns are stunning and unexpected. Their hinges and little claws are a production designer's dream.
Also am inspired by children's book illustrations. Love them and collect them. Love Lisbeth Zwerger, Gris Grimley, Emily Gravett.
How did you get started?
I am a graphic designer and went to a fabulous school in Pasadena. I think I was the poorest student there (I didn't even have my own computer) and for eight semesters tried to eek out projects on a miniscule budget. I fed comics pages through the copy machine (multiple times) for one final project. I still have that project, it's still exceptional. My favorite design / creation methods remain unconventional (although I now have my own fabulous power-mac).
I worked for a long time as a designer @ NBC Universal. It was a great job and I met fantastic people, but was a creative famine. I missed the crazy crafty copy-machine projects and painting with tea and building things. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to become a freelance designer and am allowed more creative variety plus time to work on fun stuff.
What is your favorite item in your shop?
I love them each for different reasons. I love the BE STILL print because I created it while my dad was having bypass surgery and I needed to concentrate on not flipping-out. I love CHARITY NEVER FAILETH because it's uber-subtle, quiet and strong—like wonderful Relief Society women NOW and in the history of The Church.
What are some of your favorite handmade things?
I commissioned my nieces and nephews to create a series of LDS Temple drawings / paintings. I will keep them forever. A bright colorful orange, red, yellow flame-engulfed temple with a guy inside holding a match (someone had a lesson on the Nauvoo temple burning...!?) Another crazy crooked temple with an Angel Moroni the size of Manhattan. Way cooler and more emotive than a mere temple photo / regular painting.
I collect and have way too many handmade little bags (jewelry bags, wallets, coin purses). Also love wacky primitive jewelry, an art book made by Jana Jarosz (a friend and a fantastic artist), and Denyse Schmidt / Gee's Bend quilts.
What do you enjoy doing besides crafting?Talking about ideas. Seeing new fabulous art. Shooting portrait photography. Spending time with dynamic people and READING ANYTHING.
Anything else to share?Thanks for talking to me. It's been great to think about craft and design and makes me want to go make something...

Persnickety Pelican is a ran by two gals, Tara and Pam, from San Diego, CA. They have several different types of items in their shop. They create these interesting Whimsical Woolies Felted Soap like this Birthday Wishes Set. A felted soap is like a washcloth built into the soap. Little pieces of soft wool are pushed into the soap with a felting needle to make the design. The wool shrinks with the soap as it is used in the bath or shower. Once the soap is gone, a nice smelling little ball of wool is left to freshen up a drawer!

When did you start crafting?
Tara: I started crafting when I was 9 years old making cards and decorations for the different holidays.
Pam: I started crafting when I was around 7. Just took fabric scraps my mother had and hand sewed them into doll clothes.
What inspires you?
Tara: My mom definitely inspires me. I grew up around her crafting, so it rubbed off on me. :) She made me clothes (still does!) and toys to play with.
Pam: I get inspired by my surroundings. Digging in my flower gardens allows me time to think about my next creations.
What is your favorite item in your shop?
Tara: My pink birthday wishes cupcake felted soap gift set. It is just too cute to resist and it’s all pink, my favorite color!
Pam: My favorite shop item would be the Aardvark stuffed toy. It was fun to design it and see it evolve from a rough prototype.
What are some of your favorite handmade things?
Tara: My favorite things are the custom clothing items my mom sews for me. Whether it be pants or jackets, they always fit perfectly and I get to wear something no one else has! She is so talented, I’m very proud of her!
Pam: I don’t really have any favorite handmade things. I like everything handmade, by me or others, as long as it was made with love and thought.
What do you enjoy doing besides crafting?
Tara: I like to play tennis and do pilates.
Pam: Since crafting takes up so much of my time now, I have to squeeze in a few of my favorite pastimes. I love to bake, cook, golf, bike ride, garden, and especially read books!

When did you start crafting?-I started crafting at a very young age as my mother encouraged me to try many things. And I grew to develop my skills at sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and eventually jewelry making.
What inspires you?- I get inspired my many things, nature, beads, magazines, people, fabric, fashion, yarn, etc...
What is your favorite item in your shop?- that is a hard question ,it,s like being asked which of your children is your favorite, but my most favorite would have to be , my tie purses.

What do your enjoy doing besides crafting?- talking long walks, listening to music, reading craft magazines

Don't' we all wish for time to relax and unwind after a crazy day. My husband is great at forcing me to relax after a busy and tiring day with my children. My favorite thing to do to relax is take a nice warm bath. Every girl needs some of these items from Bath Buddies.

When did you start crafting?
I've loved making crafts since I was little, but it wasn't until recently that it occurred to me that I could ever sell my crafts. Bath and beauty products are my favorite crafts.. all the different types and fragrances.. SO many choices!
What inspires you?

Shopping! I love to shop and I get so many new ideas for my own products from seeing everything else that is out there.
What is your favorite item in your shop?
That's a tough one; my answer changes almost daily! My favorite at the moment is my pedicure soak set. I'm a flip-flop girl, so they are perfect for me!
What are some of your favorite handmade things?
Aside from my bath fizzies, my other favorites are definitely homemade lotions, makeup, and jewelry. I appreciate the products so much more knowing that someone personally made them instead of a machine!
What do you enjoy doing besides crafting?

Teaching (little kids are the best!), reading, going to the beach, dancing, and just hanging out with my husband.
